Attention all prospective indigenous students for Semester 2 2009.

CTA has been offered the opportunity to partner with Australian College of Applied Psychology in offering a program which has Commonwealth Government Funding for Indigenous Students. Our first block will start on the 27th July 2009. Call Philip our Indigenous Enrollments Officer on 07 47724103 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Diploma of Counselling CHC51708

From July 2009 our counselling program will be based on the new Diploma of Counselling CHC51708 replacing the Diploma of Community Welfare Work CHC50702. This reflects community and government recognition of the importance of counselling as a distinct discipline.

Students completing the Diploma of Counselling or the Diploma of Community Welfare Work are welcome to apply to be part of our new internship program offered through our counselling division The Counsellors. Students residing outside of Townsville can ask for this information so that their own counselling organisations can implement the internship program as well. This is a fast track intensive experience program which provides opportunity for training in a full range of client presentations and includes a research component as well as individual and group supervision.

The internship has been developed specifically to assist students who want to enter the new advanced practitioner qualification in Relationship Counselling.

This qualification is available in three versions

1. For Community Workers

2. For Indigenous Workers (from 2010) - other options available now please see insert above.  Cool

3. For Christian Workers

The Vocatational Graduate Diploma of Relationship Counselling CHC80208

This great new program for those experienced in the area of counselling provides further training in vital areas such as Domestic Violence, Relationship Counselling, Child and Adolescent Counselling and Management and Supervision of other workers as well as Organisational Safety. This program is offered through residential workshops so that students from other locations outside of Townsville are able to complete studies in a practical way. Abstudy is available for Indigenous Students to attend.

Certificate IV in Mediation CHC42308

This qualification is a great extension to counselling skills and since the changes in Family Law which includes compulsory mediation for those intending to go to court over issues such as child access or property division after a separation means that there is a new and large demand in the community for mediators. The Certificate IV in Mediation provides the first step towards becoming a professional mediator. Students with this qualfication can provide Mediation immediately however those wanting to provide Mediation through the Attorney General's Department will also need to complete the new Vocational Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution CHC80308. CTA has this also on the 'drawing board' currently so keep tuned.

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAA40104

Townsville Queensland and by Distance Education

This course is delivered over 10 days with 7 days face to face training in Townsville. (Tues - Friday in the first week and Tues- Thurs in the second week). The course allows students to complete most of the assessment in class with only a small take home assessment component. Many workers find this intensive program really fits the bill in their busy schedule. And while the course is short and sweet there is a complete committment to quality training so that students exit the program feeling fully equipped to provide a training role in their organisation. CTA provides extension training also in computer applications of Power Point and Publisher during the program.   These are  valuable tools for any trainer and assists in quality delivery. This inbulit computer training is a great bonus as it would normally cost individuals extra if they were to enrol in this training separately.

Students enrolling in the distance program are provided with Power Point presentations and easy to work through booklets which can be emailed for ease. Glenda Whybird is our Distance Tutor. Glenda is friendly supportive and very approachable. Glenda is also able to help you with any RPL requests. Email Glenda on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The upgrade for the BSZ40198 qualification is conducted on the first 3 days of the training program. Students who require the upgrade for the old BSZ will need to bring a copy of the BSZ40198 that they have recieved through another organisation plus a letter or other evidence of currency in training.
